Department of Applied and Computational Mathematics and Statistics
University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN 46556

Professor Yongtao Zhang (Yong-Tao Zhang) received his B.S. degree and M.S. degree in Computational Mathematics from Nankai University, China, in 1996 and 1999. In 2003, he received his Ph.D. degree in Applied Mathematics from Brown University with Professor Chi-Wang Shu as his advisor. He then spent three years as a visiting assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics at University of California, Irvine, before joining University of Notre Dame as an Assistant Professor in 2006. He was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2011, and full Professor in 2017. Professor Zhang works on developing efficient and high-order accuracy numerical methods for solving partial differential equations, especially hyperbolic conservation laws and convection dominated equations, stiff advection-reaction-diffusion equations, and Hamilton-Jacobi equations, etc., and their applications for compressible flow problems in fluid dynamics, wave problems in physics, and morphogenesis problems in biology, etc. He is serving as an Associate Editor for academic journals including Journal of Scientific Computing, Communications on Applied Mathematics and Computation, Electronic Research Archive (AIMS), etc.
